Quote of the Week

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' (I found it!) but 'That's funny ...'

Isaac Asimov

Comments:
The guy is famous for writing fiction about science tho, does he have any credibility?I think he was trained as chemist tho,so his quote probably only applies to chemistry.

R you doing any QA on these quotes ?

No, I'm not doing any QA on the quotes I use. :-)

Sorry,i feel bad about being critical now. It's a very nice blog but i just didn't like that quote, made the whole process of scientific discovery sound a bit trivial.I may just be a uptight Irish nerd tho!Any news?

Hey, constructive criticism is always good. I don't think that the quote was diminishing the process of scientific discovery. I liked it because some great scientific discoveries have been made by someone saying 'That's funny...' and then exploring it even though it may not have been what the person intended to discover in the first place. How is Oxford going?

Ah ya it's good,I'm rowing these days which is a good craic.Any news yourself? This is perhaps a stupid question to post as a comment on somebodies blog.

Ok, rowing in Oxford sounds cool but is it not bloody freezing? :-)Things are ok here, I'm being kept busy at work and with the house. Heading to see BellX1 on Wednesday so really looking forward to that. Have you seen any good bands in Oxford yet?
