Dictionary Corner #24

Osculation – noun (humorous)

Kissing.

ORIGIN – from Latin osculari ‘to kiss’

Comments:
Somehow it just doesn't convey the seem feeling in that word!

Osculari ! That's cracking me up Betty. It just sounds so wrong, that it sounds too funny... I'm certainly not getting enough osculari-es, and it's making me giggle to say it.

I've been using that word for years to describe kissing. It's great when used in poetry, rhymes with all the best words.

I'm surprised you didn't mention its use in mathematics however, when two curves come in contact to share a tangent.

Freud would have a field day with this post...
